NVR vs DVR Comparison
Pros, Cons, and Differences

DVR System
Analog cameras are commonly used in DVR security systems because they
transmit analog signals that the recorder processes. They are less
complex and expensive than NVR systems, making DVRs more affordable.
However, analog cameras require coaxial cables to connect to the DVR,
which do not supply power to the camera and cannot transmit audio
signals. This means that separate cables are needed for power and video
transmission, and audio transmission requires an RCA connection. Additionally, the wider and stiffer coaxial cables can make installation
challenging.
To process the video data, DVR recorders rely on AD
encoders, and each camera in a DVR system needs to be connected to the
recorder and a separate power source. The number of cameras that can
record sound is limited by the fixed number of audio input ports on the
DVR recorder.
NVR System
NVR systems use IP cameras, which can process video data and transmit
audio. They can also perform advanced video analytics like facial and
license plate recognition.
IP cameras connect to the NVR recorder
through Ethernet cables, which can run up to 100 meters and may also
provide power (PoE).
The NVR recorder only stores and views the footage,
while video processing is done at the camera.
Audio is supported
through Ethernet cables, and NVR systems can store footage in the cloud,
providing higher storage capacity compared to DVR systems that are
limited to on-premise storage.
